Is it Worth it?

Finally, I am overjoyed. I overcame procrastination and began toiling on a new blog post. I will take a cookie treat after concluding this post. I am training my puppy brain to be more productive these days, and the cookie treat method is beginning to bear fruits! It has been close to two years since I have been home. The master's degree is ongoing, and I have no idea when this labour will culminate. Artificial Intelligence is making me question my intelligence. In a way, maybe this article is being penned as an excuse for not working on my assignment(s).Shush. Amogh, stop. Stop exposing yourself.   Despite the burden of these thorny questions in Artificial Intelligence pouring on me, the question that plagues me the most is - " Is it worth it ?".  No, I am not just talking about the degree. I am talking about taking my roots and supplanting it in foreign soil. Are my roots strong enough to flourish in a non-native environment? Are they disease-resistant to defy the bugs ...

Foreign Lands - Foreign Struggles

"Well, screw this. Master's education for the win". A dialogue that I had with myself around 1.5 years back resulted in these aforementioned words. It is time to leave the country, explore a little, and find myself again. Why didn't I move to the Himalayas as some people suggest? Simple. I am not fond of pain and misery. With the age paranoia affecting me at a relatively young age, leaving my homeland for pursuing a Master's sounded like a stupendous idea. Destination? Austria. Johannes Kepler University (JKU) accepted me for what I am despite the Germans finding me unworthy. The specialization would be Artificial Intelligence. Time to hone my Tony Stark-esque skills to build a Jarvis. Let us make robots. Humans are despicable anyways. Austria. The land of Dominik Thiem, Mozart, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Freud, and Schrödinger. No, I will not be using the H person. Germany can have him. JKU, situated in Upper Austria, had a modern campus with covetabl...

Dear Society, For Every Romeo, there Needn't be a Juliet.

A wise man once said, "As you grow older, you become wiser". I do not have any idea how old he was when he uttered these words that have such profound meaning. As I've reached the stage where I am closer to the age of 50, as compared to 0, I am realizing the weightiness of this statement. I am on an apology spree to all those (includes cousins, colleagues, acquaintances, family members) whom I made fun of for getting old. Pulling their legs and asking them to get married, or find a loved one, was amongst my favourite activities. I am sure the seven doors of hell are wide open for me for these actions, and six feet tall bloodhounds are salivating at the thought of my arrival. I wouldn't be surprised if God wishes to punish me and makes me watch Big Boss for aggravating my pain. The concept of a relationship or a marriage has always been fed to us from our childhood. We've been fed so much that we've become obese. Perhaps, it forms the Holy Trinity of human life...

Hop in Kids, the Coding Express is Taking you to Destination Prosperity

Social media has become an indispensable part of human life. Hardly any dispute can arise here.   Earlier, I would've made a minor change, and affirmed that social media is thriving amongst the young adult population. However, the elders in my house restrict me from doing so. Facebook videos have emerged as a popular source for healthy recipes and home medicine. I guess we can agree that social media advertisements do get on our nerves. Every third post on Facebook is an advertisement. Often, I am left questioning its relevance. I got a suggestion about horse feed once. Perhaps someone heard me speaking about my desire to be a Western Cowboy.  The COVID-19 pandemic has presented new opportunities for social media handlers. Social media marketing has gained immense traction, and studies show that there has been an increment of about 10% in social media usage during the lockdown period in India. Recently, an ad from a prominent company caught my attention. They pr...

The Degradation of Journalistic Integrity in the Digital Age

Affordable internet and smartphones have revolutionized the world of media and entertainment. Estimates suggest that there are around 4.5 billion users on the internet currently. Truly remarkable, and a feat unimaginable a few decades back. However, it does come with certain demerits.  Everyone has become a journalist or a judge (both words can be used interchangeably these days), and medium like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter has emerged as the forbearers of justice around the world. Once pronounced guilty by the mighty media, not even an acquittal by the Honourable Supreme Court of India, or the International Court of Justice can exonerate the person from the judgement by the keyboard warriors.  A few days back, I was drawn into the most pertinent question of the 21st century, though reluctantly. This needed to be answered, and the matter appeared much more alluring than bleak, monotonous issues like COVID-19, unemployment, closure of small and medium businesses around the...

Online Education MUST go ?

I wouldn't be exaggerating if I say that I have been dreaming of a day when I hear these golden words from our Prime Minister, "Mitron, 2020 has been officially discarded and it won't be included in your official age ". Sheer bliss. However, I wake up every time I have these fruitful dreams. Back to reality, Mr. Amogh.  A five-minute swipe on the smartphone takes you to the Internet that is stuffed with online classes and materials to expedite learning during these times of peril. I'm awestruck by the advancement in education technology and how the government bodies are utilizing Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, etc., for keeping the kids interested in learning. You can get a 3D feel of the objects without having to be in a school. Fascinating, isn't it? Well, even that term would be an understatement. But, once the fanboy moment passes, my brain rewinds - rewinds to the early 2000s. I see a five-year-old kid who is too lazy to ...

Nepotism, thou art bad ?

Cinema and arts - the world of glamour. Once SUCCESSFUL , you can enjoy the status of God.  Kindly note that I have highlighted the term 'successful'. Even if I decide to use a font size of 50, the weight of the word will still be understated. Most of us would've imagined delivering a speech,  wearing a flashy dress, in front of an audience filled with 'eminent' personalities, after receiving an award for the best actor or actress. Life in the movie industry is arduous. One misstep can derail your entire career. Wait a minute..one failure can derail a career? But...what about the kids of movie stars? They're being given numerous occasions despite their film bombing at the box office. Life is unfair for outsiders. Nepotism is ruining the film industry, whether it be Bollywood, Kollywood, or Mollywood. Voila, folks! Nepotism is in the limelight AGAIN, thanks to the seizing of the opportunity by the OUTSPOKEN outsiders of Bollywood. Producers like Karan Johar...
